Our clients are involved in a variety of projects, and rely on us at Larry Collier Crane
to provide the required cranes and parts they need. When it comes to the TEREX
brand, nothing can compare to the Twin CC 8800, the world’s most powerful crane. This is an overview of this crane’s components and top features, along with some real-world examples of the crane in use.
About the TWIN CC 8800-1
The TWIN is an add-on kit to the already powerful and versatile TEREX CC 8800-1 crane. According to TEREX, the name represents the complementary functions that the double boom and additional components add to the standard model. The CC 8800-1 TWIN add-ons save time when compared to erecting structures like jacking towers and rig lift cranes to complete similar tasks.
Components and Features
Bigge Equipment explains that the CC 8800-1 TWIN consists of a standard machine and counterweight. The counterweight is supported with a full suspension system. The second boom and Superlift mast come with resistant cross connectors that connect to the first boom. The crane’s second hook block system includes a tie-bar that connects to the first hook block. Four cross beams are used to connect crawlers to the body car. Additional parts, including crawler extensions, drive gears and winches, are provided. All this, complete with a sophisticated control system that allows synchronization of winches, makes the CC 8800-1 TWIN the ideal crane to take on massive projects.
The CC 8800-1 TWIN features limits and loads that dwarf those of other cranes. TEREX explains that this crane has a maximum load of 3,200 tons (t) and maximum load moment of 43,900 metric tons (mt). Despite its size, the CC 8800-1 can still travel with a full load. The maximum width of components during transportation is 3.50 meters (m), and the maximum weight of components during transportation is 60 t.
The Twin CC 8800 in Use
TEREX is proud to know that the CC 8800-1 TWIN has been put to good use by companies from all over the world. Here a just a few instances:
Power Plants in China
In January 2010, Chinese company Zongyuan Construction Co. Ltd. used the CC 8800-1 TWIN to lift a power plant generator. Completed in the Shandong Province, the generator was part of a third generation AP1000 power plant. The generator weighed 1,046mt and had dimensions of 20.96m x 14.17m x 20.96m. The entire lift was completed in 1 hour and 42 minutes.
Petrochemical Development in Qatar
In June 2015, Al Jaber Heavy Lift and Transport used the TWIN crane to assist in several heavy lifts on a petrochemical development site. After 18 months of planning, a total of 143 lifts were conducted to complete the contract. 31 lifts used the TEREX CC 8800-1 and two used the TWIN crane. Specifically, the TWIN lifted two Advanced Gas Reactors (AGRs) that weighed 1,300t each. Mark Rowlands, project manager with Al Jaber Heavy Lift, praised the CC 8800-1 TWIN for its ease of use, precise controls and stability.
While TEREX only provides top-quality cranes, it’s easy to understand why the CC 8800-1 TWIN sets itself apart from the rest. The added functionality given to the already exceptional CC 8800-1 makes the TWIN a cost-effective choice. Companies worldwide have used the TWIN on massive projects that require long-term planning.
